It was David Stoecklein's fascination with the American West ranching heritage that inspired his photographing of the men and women who still breathe life into the mythical figure of the cowboy. Documenting the West of today soon became his personal mission. Stoecklein's interest in preserving the traditions and beliefs of our country's honest, hard-working cowboys and cowgirls gradually earned him their respect as well as an open invitation to share in their lives and trust. As fifth generation Texas rancher, Tom Moorhouse, told Stoecklein, "The work you are doing is very important to us. You are preserving the West, which is my family and the families of my friends."
