Why Does GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Concealment Technology Work?
 Deer vision -
Many hunting garments feature three-dimensional woodland images, which, to the human eye, blend in well with a hunter's surroundings. But often these patterns fail to fool their most important audience—the prey. GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Concealment is a first-of-its-kind hunting camouflage pattern based on how deer and other hoofed animals see. Gore™ worked with animal vision and camouflage experts to create the technology, which gives hunters an advantage not possible with competing products.
 Micro-pattern -
GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Concealment consists of a micro-pattern of small fragmented shapes that help hunters blend into a deer's view of the environment, in much the same way a leopard's spots help it evade detection while lurking in brush.
Macro-pattern - GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Concealment also consists of a macro-pattern of large fragmented shapes that help make hunters unrecognizable as predators, even when detected. The pattern breaks up the natural shape and symmetry of the human body, similar to the way a tiger's stripes break up the shape of its body as it chases prey.

Testing
Animal vision tests - To create GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Concealment, Gore™ teamed up with Dr. Jay Neitz, an animal vision expert at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His research indicates that deer vision is only slightly blurrier than human vision, with high sensitivity to blues and yellows, but red-green colorblindness. Dr. Neitz also provided Gore™ with critical data regarding how deer perceive textures and shapes. Using this knowledge, Gore™ worked with camouflage experts to develop their new pattern.
Computerized validation tests - Gore™ is committed to ensuring that all of their products do what they say they will do. To assess the effectiveness of GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Concealment, Gore™ tested the pattern through a series of computerized validation tests, which replicate a deer's visual abilities. The results demonstrated that GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Concealment is 62 percent more effective in evading visual detection than the closest competing camouflage and 29 percent more effective in delaying object recognition.
