Interesting piece of gear
By: John Dowdell - San Francisco, CA May 8, 2011
Shirt-weight sportscoat functions as a windbreaker, yet remains presentable. Fabric's very comfortable -- feels almost like microsuede, but it's durable canvas.
Lapel pocket is large, at 4.5"x5". Two open front patch pockets are 6"x7", have discreet bellows. Two internal lower buttonable patch pockets are 6"x6". Internal chest security pocket can zip up a US passport. Could use a long map/ticket on internal right chest.
Sleeves can roll to elbow for the heat. If it gets windy, the tight canvas will block it. Yet still the fabric breathes well. Dries quickly, and can be machine-washed.
Stitching looks very solid. Internal seams are taped. 6oz canvas is loosely doubled in front... extra wind protection.
Fit is on the trim side. But range of arm motion is unrestricted, even when buttoned closed. Drapes well.
It might be hard to fit a loaded travel vest or lumbar pack under here, but a medium sweater would be practical in colder weather.
I'm a pedestrian in San Francisco, and this jacket seems like it can handle the range of conditions. Might also be very useful for travel.
