Care Instructions:
In general, washing your gear in cold or warm water with mild non-deodorant powder laundry soap (non-toxic, biodegradable types preferred) and hang drying them are the best ways to clean Sitka products.
DWR
Sitka's waterproof/breathable outer layers are originally treated with a Durable Water-Repellent finish (DWR), which keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job. This coating needs to be replenished once per season, or more often if the piece gets a lot of use or washing. If water is no longer beading up on your shell, it's time to retreat it. Sitka likes using Nikwax products. Make sure to use a spray on Sitka softshell pieces, like the 90% Series, and a wash-in for 2.5 layer garments, like the Downpour Series. Additionally, don't hesitate to treat your Mountain Pants with a DWR spray and watch the water bead off.
Stains
If the sight of blood on your pants and jacket gets old, try rubbing in some detergent and then wash in warm water with plenty of mild laundry soap. If that doesn't work, wear your badge with pride.
Sap
Freeze it and then pick it off with a dull object. Rub the remainder out with a water/white-vinegar solution and then wash with detergent.
Flammability
Like most synthetics, Sitka Gear will melt or burn when exposed to flames or direct heat. Be careful jumping over the bonfire back at camp.
