LOWA Technical Details

At LOWA, comfort and fit are interconnected - because a boot can't be comfortable if it doesn't fit well. LOWA has been at this boot-building business for a while, 90 years to be precise. So it shouldn't be a surprise that LOWA prides themselves on how their boots' fit.

Special technology LOWA builds into their boots and shoes for ultimate comfort, fit and performance:

Lowa Shank

Shanks & PU (polyurethane)

LOWA uses full length and width shanks with PU under them for total underfoot support.

The type of shank that's used depends upon the boot's intended use.
LOWA SPS - Supination/Pronation Support SPS: Supination/Pronation Support

LOWA's SPS proprietary midsole technology is featured in backpacking and select hiking boots. By placing TPV inserts within the softer midsole mold, LOWA is able to control and often prevent the over- pronation and supination that can occur during walking and which can contribute to fatigue and injury when walking long distances.
Monowrap Construction
Monowrap Construction

Midsole PU (polyurethane) construction is injected around the sides of the shoe, to wrap the foot in a lightweight, comfortable and supportive 'frame.'

Breathability, support and stability is enhanced by targeting specific material composition in relation to the intended use of the shoe.
AWP-Asymmetrical Walking Positive AWP - Asymmetrical Walking Position

LOWA designs the ankle area of men's boots to be set at a 2 degree angle to provide a more balanced stance, less fatigue and an easier overall break-in period. A LOWA exclusive. (Because a woman's stance is more upright, this angling is not needed in women's boots.)
C4 Tongue C4 Tongue

LOWA Leather Legendary Comfort: Glove Leather Linings

LOWA is one of the few boot manufacturers who still builds boots with buttery soft leather linings. LOWA takes pride in the extremely high quality of the leather that goes into LOWA's boots. LOWA is also proud of their skilled leather cutters, who are among the most experienced workers in our industry.

Leather linings fit close to the foot, creating the next best thing to a custom fit. Many folks, especially those living in hotter drier climates where they don't need GORE-TEX® swear by leather.
